FAQs

Why is tutoring only offered in person?

Learning is inherently social. Verbal communication is only one way we express our feelings or thoughts. Some of these non-verbal cues are lost in online environments. In-person instruction allows me to adapt my instruction based on the cues that I am receiving in real time. Additionally, it allows us to focus on the task at hand. Working together in a shared space helps to minimize other distractions and increase the amount of learning that can get done. For more information on why in-person learning tends to me more effective than online instruction, the California Learning Resource Network has a detailed explanation you can find here.

What ages/grades do you work with?

I am a primary/junior specialist and work with students from Kindergarten to Grade 6.

If tutoring takes place in my home, does a parent need to be home?

Yes, or another trusted adult that the child knows.

How often should my child meet with a tutor?

Unfortunately, there is no one-size-fits-all answer to this question. When answering this question, it is important to consider your child’s learning preferences, current academic performance, learning goals, and other commitments. For some students, once a week may be enough. However, for students needing to “catch up” and build foundational skills, more sessions per week may be required to attain their learning goals. After the first session, when the assessment is done, we can discuss the best schedule to meet your and your child’s needs.

What is your cancellation policy?

Cancellations received 24 hours before a scheduled session will be eligible for a refund or rescheduling. Cancellations made the same day can be rescheduled.
